Adoption of ITIL version 3 is slow because of confusion about what it can offer, according to IT training company Parity.
Research carried out by the firm showed a positive attitude to version 3 of the IT Infrastructure Library service management guidelines, but slow uptake of the training and confusion about what it can offer businesses.
Parity questioned 50 IT professionals at a conference on their use of ITIL. Only 31% currently use version 3, but 40% believed it offered a more strategic approach. Four per cent had decided against it, and 16% said they were confused about the difference between ITIL version 2 and ITIL version 3.
Rick Frith, Parity managing director, said, "The problem is many people are happy with what version 2 has delivered."
He added acceptance of version 3 would improve with better understanding and education.
