Retail analyst Dunnhumby is using a tool from SAS to automate some of its data cleansing and analysis. It says the move will enable speedier corporate growth by minimising training requirements.
The retail intelligence specialist, which already uses SAS tools to support its retail clients, decided to expand the use of its data integration software to replace tools developed in-house.
"It is automation software that encapsulates what we do with data already but in a more repeatable way," said Dave Annis, UK data solutions director at Dunnhumby.
Annis said huge quantities of client data received by the firm needed to be cleansed and formatted to allow further analysis. Dunnhumby staff previously used in-house tools for the task. The SAS software will free up staff for more productive work, allowing business expansion.
"Compared with the old system, we are able to deliver what clients need in half the time and as a result staff can spend more time looking at strategy," Annis said.
The SAS Extraction, Transformation and Loading tool will also allow Dunnhumby to expand more rapidly because new staff will not need such specialist training or skills.Comment on this article: [email protected]
