Alcatel and Nokia are collaborating over the extension of fixed IP telephony to mobile devices.
The Intellisync Call Connect system is a Nokia solution designed to integrate Nokia Eseries devices with the Alcatel OmniPCX Enterprise PBX.
The product will make popular desk phone functions available to the mobile user. For example, employees can manage just one business number, and control where and when and on which device they receive their calls.
Additionally, the benefits of the office phone, such as call conferencing, call back, and dial by name are delivered to the Nokia Eseries within an enterprise environment.
The system also enables companies to take advantage of Alcatel's least cost routing capabilities, significantly reducing international mobile calling charges and providing greater control of overall communication costs.
It does this by routing international calls from a mobile device via the IP-based fixed line PBX, which can deliver cheaper calls.
Currently, Intellisync Call Connect for Alcatel uses a cellular network to connect to a company's PBX infrastructure, and will be enhanced to support both cellular and Wi-Fi networks with dual mode phones in the near future.
The product will ship during the fourth quarter.
