Microsoft has released its latest software development product, Visual Studio 2005 Team Foundation Server, after a four-month delay.
The software giant released the rest of the Visual Studio 2005 package – the latest version of its .net development environment – in November. But it failed to ship the server component that would allow Visual Studio to be used by development teams.
The server product had been much-anticipated by IT departments that are increasingly focusing on team development.
Team Foundation Server allows users to track and manage changes to source code, tasks lists and project plans. It uses XML Web Services to allow collaborative communication between team members.
The product also uses the analysis and business intelligence features of Microsoft’s SQL Server 2005 to bring visibility into the software development process. Reports can be automatically generated as the team works.
