Sun Microsystems has launched the N1 Advanced Architecture for SAP Solutions to provide end-to-end provisioning and management of SAP applications across virtualised heterogeneous environments, including the Solaris 10 operating system.

Sun and SAP say they have collaborated to create a product that can streamline customers' IT processes and help reduce overall management complexity and operating costs, while improving resource utilisation and enhancing application availability.

The system is targeted at enterprises with large IT environments to consolidate and virtualise their SAP applications. By dynamically optimising SAP application functions and modules to match appropriate hardware, the companies believe they can guarantee improved system utilisation whilst also reducing deployment time and operating costs.

"By collaborating with SAP, we've created a product that can benefit any company that's looking for a way to streamline the cost and complexity of their deployment," says Tom Goguen, vice-president of system software at Sun. "The new offering [will] help large enterprises design, implement and optimally manage solutions in SAP application environments."
