The Oasis standards body is aiming to make it easier to install applications in enterprise networks by developing a specification that suppliers can follow when creating applications.
Oasis, the Organisation for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards, has launched the Solution Deployment Descriptor to standardise software installation components, giving users a better understanding of what infrastructure resources are needed to install and manage software.
The initiative is designed to enable users to automate more of the installation and management process, and help drive demand for service-oriented computing and grid-based systems.
The first meeting of the Oasis Solution Deployment Descriptor technical committee is scheduled to take place on 1 June. Participants will include IBM, Computer Associates, HP, Novell and Sun Microsystems.
