WildPackets will showcase its system to locate unauthorised rogue wireless Lan access points at this month’s Wireless Lan Event 2005.

The Wireless Sensor enables network engineers to rapidly troubleshoot 802.11a/b/g wireless Lan networks, and to identify and locate rogue access points and other security threats which can compromise legitimate traffic.

Unauthorised access points can be fitted by hackers, or employees wanting to bypass an enterprise’s wireless working policies. The sensor integrates with WildPackets’ monitoring systems for wired networks.

“Security events, network infrastructure problems and application errors can originate from either the wireless or wired side, so if a customer chooses to deploy a wireless overlay system, it should meet all the requirements of an enterprise network management system: one platform to monitor, troubleshoot, and secure all network segments,” comments  Brant Cooper, WildPackets vice president of corporate strategy.
