IT managers and e-government managers in local authorities are being offered bursaries to improve their leadership and management skills.

The bursaries, worth £3,500, will cover the course fees for IT professionals to attend the Future Leadership Programme. The programme will give candidates an insight into the challenges faced by other managers across local government.

The bursaries are being offered by local government IT managers association Socitm but they are not limited to Socitm members.

The awards, being run in partnership with the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, cover the full fees for all three modules in the programme.

The course runs for a total of seven and a half days, but these can be spread over six months. It features project work and interaction with managers from different areas of local government.

The bursaries are available to anyone employed by a local authority or a fire authority. Applicants are required to submit a statement setting out their areas for development.
