Dell Computer has revealed the pricing for its PowerEdge 3250 server, which is based on Intel's new Itanium 2 processor, and also will make Intel's Xeon chips available on four-way PowerEdge servers.

The company has priced the base configuration of its PowerEdge 3250 $5,999 (£3,614), which has a 1.3GHz Itanium 2 processor with 3Mbytes of cache. The two-way server is also available in a cluster of eight nodes for $88,600 (£53,377).

Dell will incorporate Intel's latest Xeon MP processors into its PowerEdge 6650 and 6600 four-way servers. The Xeon MP chips have clock speeds of 2.8GHz, 2.5GHz and 2.0GHz.

Hewlett-Packard's ProLiant line of servers will also be available with the Intel Xeon MP chips later this month.
