The houses of Commons and Lords authorities are looking for companies to build a parliamentary information services system.

The proposed set-up will replace the main Parliamentary On Line Information System, which supports Parliament's library applications.

As part of the implementation of the new system, a Web interface will be developed to provide users with a single point of access to applications.

The invitation to tender document said the contract will last for about two years, with the core functionality expected to be operational 12 months after the contract is awarded.

Parliamentary officials expect the project to help them to meet existing and future demands for multimedia and publishing documents in a variety of formats.

A House of Commons official said, "This aims to satisfy the information requirements of the libraries of both houses and will also provide other communities with easier and more comprehensive access to information."
