Travel group TUI Northern Europe, which owns UK chains Thomsons and Lunn Poly, is planning to roll out part of Oracle's e-business suite in a bid to cut costs and support future expansion.

The Financial module from Oracle, due to go live at the start of next year, will allow TUI to integrate myriad disparate financial systems, said Steve Newman, project manager at TUI UK.

TUI Northern Europe has its own package holiday operation, distribution channel and strong links to Britannia Airlines, as well as 40 brands with about 16 financial systems, leading to inefficiencies, he said.

"The multiple financial systems had become unmanageable," said Newman. "We grow by acquisition and an integrated system will allow us to support further growth."

The purchasing and procurement modules, meanwhile, will allow TUI to start buying over the Web, he said.
