The new portal, mySocrates, will initially be available only to the company's 180,000-strong workforce in the US, but many staff outside the US will also benefit.
"Throughout the world the capability already exists for our salaried employees to access content. We have regionalised content which is going to be made available in Europe, Asia-Pacific and Latin America," A GM representative told CW360.com
"In the future, each region will make its own decision as to when and how to implement the portal technology. That is going to be dictated by business needs, local technology capabilities and the lessons learned from the US programme."
The US programme, which is open to hourly workers as well as salaried employees, gives workers access to training programmes, personal payroll details, holiday and other benefit entitlements; and details of how to apply for company schemes such as childcare.
"Employees can also access the portal anywhere through the public Internet by inputting their own unique log-in name and password, seven days a week, 365 days a year. We believe it will make it much easier for employees to do their jobs," said the GM representative.
