Emerson Network Power has released a list called Best Practices to Avoid Data Centre Failure by Human Error. Rules for humans entering data centre facilities include shielding emergency "off" buttons, avoiding contaminants and correct component labeling.

CA Technologies buys cloud and virtualisation firm
CA Technologies has acquired privately held 4Base Technology, for an undisclosed sum. The virtualisation and cloud infrastructure consulting firm will become part of the CA Virtualisation and Cloud Strategy group. The storage vendor is aiming for the consultancy to provide strategic advice on implementation of cloud and virtualisation infrastructure.

Silver Peak adds new hardware features
WAN optimisation vendor Silver Peak has launched new hardware variants of its NX-8000 and NX-9000 appliances. Updated hardware features include Solid State Drives (SSDs), a smaller footprint and fibre interfaces.

Avnet to acquire itX Group Limited
Avnet has entered an agreement to acquire all of the outstanding shares of Australian-based distributor itX Group Limited (itX). The European distributor will snap up the company for AU $77.5 million ($69.2 million) in an all-cash merger. itX distributes software, hardware and services from vendors such as Oracle, IBM, HP, VMware, Apple, Citrix, Red Hat, and Trend Micro.
