Remote access to corporate servers, video conferencing, cloud computing applications and social media platforms are tools that are helping companies to grow, according to a survey of business managers.

One in six companies said they were feeling the benefits of a more collaborative, virtualised work environment, in a poll from IT services company Cognizant.

Malcolm Frank, senior vice-president of strategy at Cognizant, said the trend toward a virtualised work environment is growing. ."The virtualisation of people, processes and technologies is resulting in faster time to market while unleashing innovation," he said.

Of the 400 senior managers surveyed, 45% said it was the role of the CIO to implement a more virtualised working environment.
