Cisco and IBM ease IP management

John-Paul Kamath

Cisco is to introduce a service management package that combines Cisco Active Network Abstraction technology with IBM's Tivoli software to help network professionals manage IP services centrally.

The Cisco Assurance Management package is designed to provide network fault monitoring, fault isolation, and real-time service-level event management for large multi-supplier networks.

Cisco said the package would be interoperable with existing set-ups and would enable managers to administer IP-based services through a single system. This could help reduce complexity and cut implementation and maintenance costs.

The initial version of Cisco Assurance Management will include IBM Tivoli Netcool/Omnibus and Netcool/Precision technology. Other Tivoli technologies could be included in future versions.
