One for the ethics boys

The Association of Technology Staffing Companies (ATSCo) has turned its attention to ethical practice in the recruitment industry with the launch of a new distance learning course on the topic, for agents.

The programme, appropriately titled 'Ethical practice in IT recruitment', has been developed by specialist training company The Curve, and covers all aspects of ATSCo's code of practice, new legislation, and issues such as IR35.

Its purpose, according to ATSCo chief executive Ann Swain, is to improve standards across the industry and to encourage recruitment consultants to work in an "ethical and professional manner at all times" when dealing with clients and candidates. "It is one thing for chief executives to agree to adhere to our code of practice, but the important issue is for those staff at the 'coal face' to understand and work to the highest ethical standards," she explains. "Clients (and candidates)…will see the difference in service level."
