RFID takes off at Airbus

European planemaker Airbus is to invest millions of dollars in a multi-year deal to use RFID to streamline its manufacturing and supply chain operations.

The deal, working with IBM and OATsystems, follows the successful completion of a year-long pilot project. Airbus hopes streamlined production and supply chain processes facilitated by utilising RFID will enable it to save millions of euros a year, and help improve its production rate to meet a full order book.
