RFID EPCIS middleware pilot

The middleware required to enable RFID to work effectively is still evolving. To date, there has been more discussion of the tags, the readers, and getting an RFID ROI than the middleware. However, things are happening, and there is an opportunity to get involved in RFID middleware's development through a pilot being set up in the UK.

The opportunity is through GS1 UK, the UK arm of the GS1 global standards organisation. GS1 UK wants to get participants on board for a UK pilot of EPC Information Services (EPCIS) which allows trading partners to manage and exchange RFID sourced data such as 'what, when, where and why' through the supply chain in real time.

You can read more about EPCIS in this story in RFID Journal or by visiting the EPCglobal website.

David Lyon is the contact at GS1 UK for the EPCIS pilot. He can be contacted at david.lyon@gs1uk.org
