EPC Connection event showcases RFID middleware

There's a useful write up in RFID Journal of this week's EPC Connection event in the US, which showcases Electronic Product Code standards and technologies which are at the heart of many RFID implementations.

EPC developed and ratified the Class One Gen 2 standard for passive UHF tags; now it's concentrating on RFID middleware, with the development of EPC Information Services (EPC IS) which ultimately will allow parties in the supply chain to share attribute data regarding RFID-tagged products, such as their expiry dates, and where they've travelled in the supply chain before reaching their final destination.

If you're not over-familiar with EPC IS - don't worry, few people are - there are some details on the EPCglobal website here.

Perhaps significantly, Unilever has carried out a trial of EPC IS, while Metro Group in Germany is also a showcase site for EPCglobal standards.
