Supporting RFID

Despite the various recent reservations about RFID's effectiveness, there's no shortage of organisations stepping up to provide RFID support services, especially training.

The latest to signal its RFID-friendliness is Newham College of Further Education in East London, which has set up a 'Discovery Lab', housing a range of RFID technologies from a string of vendors such as Cisco, Intermec, Wavetrend and RadiantWave, as well as offering training courses from awareness to sector-specific training, and on to CompTIA's RFID+ courses.

The Newham Discovery Lab is only a stone's throw from the 2012 Olympics' site, and that's one event that once it rolls around in almost five years to the week, is likely to be chock-full of RFID-enabled applications. From tickets to transport, and competitors' ID cards to tracking assets housed at various Olympics' stadia, when it comes to showcasing RFID, 2012 must be too good an opportunity to miss - and in terms of feasibility, the five-year timescale for implementation should be right on track.
