The Persuasion Pack - Two...

The Pack of Cards of IT and Business Persuasion - Two

In IT, perception is more important than performance. Assuming that your IT team performs, isn't it annoying that people still have a go at you as a department? That is becuase while what you do is clearly important, what people think you do, is even more so.

So, to help your perception, your business relationships and your career - welcome to the pack of cards of persuasion:

TWO

People are predictable – 95% of the thoughts that you have today will be the same that you had yesterday - and the same with everyone else.

How to apply today - If you want to know how someone will think, feel and behave about something - ask yourself how they have done so before.

The IT Deal - Do this, or do something else. (If you choose to do nothing, please stop complaining about things, because it does our heads in.)

Starting on Monday 12th November - IT - The Next Agenda

IT is time to make the future, very different from the past - send me your best examples of success - of your own actions that work, way way beyond mere "best practice" - Together, we will form a network that helps each other - and that changes the the future shape of IT - simply by sharing real experience that works, we will together build up a database of the best of the best, available to all. Please post as a comment or e-mail me davidprivate@nkdleader.com

The Persuasion Pack - Three...

The Pack of Cards of IT and Business Persuasion - Three

In IT, perception is more important than performance. Assuming that your IT team performs, isn't it annoying that people still have a go at you as a department? That is becuase while what you do is clearly important, what people think you do, is even more so.

So, to help your perception, your business relationships and your career - welcome to the pack of cards of persuasion:

Use threes, in your business communications (Game, Set and Match) - three's (Hook, Line and Sinker) are powerful becuase they "close" a point. Saying, or writing, that a project deserves the go ahead because of its impact on morale and customers is not nearly as powerful as because of its impact on morale, motivation and customers.

Also

How to apply today - Do it once today in an e-mail, and once in a conversation.

The IT Deal - Do this, or do something else. (If you choose to do nothing, please stop complaining about things, because you just come across as a neg)

The Pack of Cards of IT and Business Persuasion - Five

The five things to know about meetings:

1. Sit to the right of a right-handed chairperson (or left of a left-handed) if you want to have greatest influence over him/her

2. If you fancy an argument sit directly opposite the Chairperson - the position of conflict

3. For major brownie points simply sit next to the most negative person in the room and while he or she is going off on one, look down in silence - do not shake your head, just sit very still - you are sending out the message - "This person is a complete plonker, and I am not"

4. If you fall asleep, when you awake, ask the following question - "I think it is important to remember what we want to achieve here". Everyone will agree, and you can nod off again.

5. If you are unsure about seniority in a room, know this - the funniness of jokes is always directly proportionate to the seniority of the person telling them –

The IT Deal - Do this, or do something else. (If you choose to do nothing, please stop complaining about things, because the rest of us are getting a bit bored)

So, to help your perception, your business relationships and your career - welcome to the pack of cards of persuasion:

The nine things to know about customers, that's internal or external i.e. your definition:

Things to know about customers

Customers hate to be sold to, but they love to buy - i.e. become their supplier of choice

Get your customers asking your advice, and they are usually sold

Make it easy for them to "buy" from you - have clear points of contact

Turn lemons into lemonade - when something goes wrong, exceed their (now low) expectations
(Chip is pointing at you now!)

Put a person on the phone - a revolutionary idea !

Be emotional - find out what they WANT - not what they NEED

Be honest - always

Get them catching you doing something right on a consistent basis

Set a standard for yourself far higher than any customer could ever reasonably expect of you

The IT Deal - Do this, or do something else. (If you choose to do nothing, please stop complaining about things, you will die, sad)
