Tesco has improved its customer service by installing
heat sensors that can identify bottlenecks of people as they move
around its shops.
The UK’s largest retailer is using the technology to stop
congestion at tills and in store aisles. By improving the flow of
customers around its stores, Tesco says it is maximising revenue
and improving customer satisfaction.
The heat sensors have been installed above the doors in the
retailer’s stores.
Tesco is using the same technology that the emergency services
use to detect survivors in collapsed buildings. The sensors are
built by UK manufacturer Irisys.
The retailer feeds the information into its in-store customer
flow systems.
