IBM has unveiled three new x86 servers equipped with quad-core AMD Opteron processors. The new servers should deliver a performance improvement of up to 15% in datacentres.

IBM said the new servers delivered improved power efficiency, performance and virtualisation capabilities.

They include the System x3455, System x3655, and the System x3755, which provides a 15% increase in processing performance over its predecessor, said IBM.

James Northington, vice-president of IBM System x, said, "The new System x3755 allows clients to grow the system along with their business, affordably scaling from the standard two-socket system to three- and four-socket configurations."

The IBM System x3455, x3655 and x3755 systems will be available in June, and US prices will be $1,809, $2,499 and $3,407 respectively. UK prices have yet not been released.
