Very few firms will find themselves in a position where they can implement a new business continuity and disaster recovery plan and the associated technologies using only internal staff, according to research from Forrester.

"Selecting a good partner for this work is crucial not only for the initial implementation, but also to be able to support and upgrade the plan in the future," said security analyst Bill Nagel.

"This is especially true if your company does not have enough internal resources or expertise to do it itself," he said. He said that although most of the firms we interviewed do have sufficient internal resources, they are still considering outsourcing part of the project. These companies are primarily seeking technology expertise when going outside their own walls.
