Dell delays posting results amid formal SEC investigation

Dell has delayed posting its third quarter results to the end of November, as a result of the ongoing investigation by the US Securities and Exchange Commission into its past results.

Both the company and the SEC are investigating whether previous results included misstated figures. Because of the investigation, the firm has still not posted its second quarter results either.

Dell was scheduled to release its results today, but said, “The move from the originally scheduled date reflects the level of complexity the company is facing in the preparation of its preliminary results.

“This complexity arises out of the ongoing investigations by the SEC and the company’s audit committee into certain accounting and financial reporting matters,” said Dell.

The company has also said the SEC investigation is now “a formal order of investigation”, meaning the SEC can subpoena both documents and witness testimony.

Dell maintained that the delay to the results was not linked to this change. Dell said that when it does post its results by the end of the month, it will only issue a press release, and that it will not be open to questions from analysts or journalists in the customary fashion.
