Foundry Networks has unveiled two 10 Gigabit Ethernet application acceleration switches to support voice over IP and other web applications.
The ServerIronGT switches will be available next month and will cost about £23,600. There are two optional modules for Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) acceleration to go with the switches, which cost between £5,900 and £10,600.
SSL acceleration is designed to make sure the most important end-user applications get the best connections, and that network security checks are done as quickly as possible.
Foundry said the switches were being introduced for datacentres handling increasing amounts of converged network traffic covering voice, video and data.
With its web SSL acceleration modules, Foundry is competing with the likes of F5 Networks, Citrix-owned Netscaler, Cisco Systems, Nortel Networks and Radware.
The wider adoption of SSL-based acceleration systems has been fuelled by the wider use of SSL-based virtual private networks, which give browser-based devices a secure closed connection to a corporate network.
