Ten Staffordshire local authorities, together with the county's police forces, have set up a joint directory to give thousands of staff instant access to one another's contact details and e-mail links.

The Joined-Up Directory, launched by the Staffordshire E-Partnership last week, displays the e-mail addresses, telephone numbers and workplace details of 12,000 staff across the 10 local authorities and allows them to e-mail one another at the click of a mouse.

Police contact details and e-mail links are also included in the directory.

The system was developed using the Microsoft Active Directory Toolset by Stoke-on-Trent firm MPCG, which will also maintain the directory.

The directory will be hosted by Staffordshire County Council, one of the partner agencies.

South Staffordshire councillor Brian Edwards, who chairs the partnership's joint committee, said, "By joining our councils together behind the scenes, the directory will help us all to deliver seamless services that put the customer first.

"There will no longer be any need to push customers from pillar to post in search of the correct employee, department or council."
