Dell announced last Tuesday that it is launching a Web hosting service in the UK following trials in the US.

DellHost will accommodate and manage the site infrastructure but, apart from supplying selected tools, content design will not be included. "DellHost gives those customers who want to outsource their infrastructure a fast and effective alternative," explained Gordon Stuart, general manager of DellHost.

Customers will be hosted on Dell servers and storage systems and will be able to configure systems over the Internet to check what the likely monthly charge will be. Dell is offering a free month with each year's rental but there is a setting-up cost.

Stuart said that an entry level system could be as low as £20 per month for a server shared with other customers, and £325 per month for a dedicated server.
