Provision of e-government in the UK is all talk and no action, a report published by the Central IT Unit of the Cabinet Office reveals.
While the UK is praised for its consultation procedures via the Peoples' Panel, it is failing to supply services to citizens and lacks a back-office infrastructure.
The UK is identified as lagging behind Australia, the US, France and Canada on provision of front-office services, while back office infrastructure compares unfavourably with Finland, Holland, Singapore and Sweden.
E-envoy Alex Allan said, "Britain is an emerging e-government nation. We are currently equivalent to champions of football's first division - behind the Manchester Uniteds from Scandinavia and the southern hemisphere, but ahead of many others."
