ICL has won a £27m contract with the Northern Ireland Court Service to design, implement and manage a secure IT desktop infrastructure.

In the largest Public Private Partnership to be awarded in Northern Ireland, the project will enable communication between all courts in the province and give the public access to information through a new Web site.

The roll-out of e-mail, Internet, intranet, and other desktop services to the 650 Court Service staff and to judges across 28 sites in Northern Ireland should be complete by September.

By 2003 ICL says it will design and implement software to support improvements in the court administration. This will also facilitate communication with other criminal justice bodies, including the Royal Ulster Constabulary, the Director of Public Prosecutions and the Northern Ireland Prison Service.
