Novell sees decline in Q3 results
Linux distributor Novell has seen a revenue dip for its third quarter, which ended 31 July. For the quarter, Novell reported net revenue of $199 million compared to net revenue of $216 million for the third quarter of 2009. Net profit also declined from $17 million to $16 million.

HP lays $2 billion on the table for 3PAR
Hewlett-Packard has announced that is willing to pay $2 billion in cash for 3PAR, as it overtakes Dell's latest $1.8 billion bid for the storage vendor. 3PAR has already signed a takeover agreement with Dell, for about $1.15 billion, which included a provision for Dell to match competing bids.

Swedish retailer Kooperativa Förbundet to consolidate with HP
Swedish retailer Kooperativa Förbundet has said it will consolidate its data centre portfolio into two sites run by HP, as part of a five-year IT modernisation strategy. Through working with HP the retailer hopes to cut its server numbers by half and its power use by 60%. Financials of the contract were not disclosed.

HP adds Stratavia to its ranks
HP has added Stratavia's Data Palette product to its portfolio, as it has completed its acquisition of the company. The product is designed for automating parts of database and application operations. Financial details of the buyout were not disclosed.

Quest Cloud Automation Platform 7.5 revealed
Quest Software has released Quest Cloud Automation Platform 7.5. As the next generation of its enterprise cloud automation and management platform, the technology enables complex IT services to reclaim unused infrastructure. The platform was originally developed by the recently acquired Surgient.
