Google rumoured to be buying Twitter

Google is rumoured to be in the late stages of buying Twitter.

The Tech Crunch blog cites two sources who, it says, are close to negotiations. They say the process is in its late stages.

Twitter's traffic figures are growing exponentially, with numbers growing 3000% in the year from February 2008 to February 2009.

Companies are starting to realise the value of Twitter, which holds endless information on their customers and what these customers think of their brands.

Users continue to sign up to the social networking site to follow publicity-boosting celebrities like Russell Brand and Stephen Fry, and to use it as a news service as well as for social networking.

Tech Crunch predicts Twitter's business model will reply on this growing and valuable information base.
