Yahoo European managing director Tony Coppel is to leave the company.

Coppel's departure follows the decision by Yahoo CEO Jerry Yang to step down from the top role.

Coppel's successor, according to reports, will be Rich Riley, currently senior vice-president of Yahoo's European advertiser and publisher group.

Coppel joined Yahoo in 2001 and ran the European operations for 18 months. He has overseen thousands of redundancies at the firm.

He has not said where he plans to go next.
