Google has introduced two initiatives that move the Google search engine closer to becoming a web services platform for businesses.

Google has introduced two initiatives that move the Google search engine closer to becoming a web services platform for businesses.

The first is a new search engine that offers a way for users to track down open source code, which should reduce the time taken to develop application software. According to Google, this should make it easier for developers to find sample code and function definitions.

The second is Google Gadget, which lets firms add complex, dynamically updating content to their own websites. Gadgets incude news clips, weather reports and maps.
