Microsoft offers single view searches

Antony Savvas

Microsoft is to consolidate its search engine technologies into a single platform with the release of Windows Live Search client software.

The search application offers a single view of Microsoft’s main search systems, including Windows Desktop Search, intranet search tool Sharepoint, and MSN Search/Windows Live for the web.

The Windows Live Search client sits on top of these technologies and brings in consolidated search results from all of them.

A beta of the Windows Live Search client is expected to be available this summer.

The company has also announced Microsoft Office Sharepoint Server for Search 2007. An alternative to Google Onebox, the product can search corporate data on enterprise networks, websites, intranets and on e-mail systems, including the Microsoft Exchange server and in Lotus Notes.
