Software tools provider Micro Focus has launched Server Express for 64-bit Linux applications running on Intel Itanium 2 64-bit processor platforms.

Server Express is Micro Focus' Cobol development environment for Unix and Linux, which allows businesses running legacy Cobol applications to move to modern hardware.

Micro Focus said it would support HP-UX running on the Itanium 2 processor-based platform.

Ed Anderson, vice-president of product marketing, Linux and platform services at Novell, said, "Micro Focus enables our joint customers to port applications to SuSE Linux at low-cost while gaining the performance benefits of a 64-bit architecture."
