Teachers site adds extra functionality

The Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL) will use Verity search software for its new members' website, which is due to go live at the start of the academic year.

Verity K2 Enterprise software will allow visitors to find documents ranked by popularity, and enable ATL to offer members-only areas on its site, connecting communities and experts with common interests.

The new website will use XML and is based on the Tridian content management system. Ann Raimondo, the association's IT manager, said XML was adopted to ensure that the ATL database conformed to government standards and to allow information to be exchanged easily.

The transition to the new website will involve a migration from the existing site based on Windows NT 4.0 and SQL Server database to a Windows 2000 server running the latest SQL Server software and the Tridian content management software.
