The Infor Performance Analyser has reduced the workload for G Costa's finance and IT departments, which previously had to write queries to the company's IBM iSeries (AS/400) server in order to retrieve business data.
Since G Costa was acquired by Associated British Foods, the company has been on a drive to improve its business reporting, said head of IT Glen Boyle. "We never had good enough business reporting tools before; we relied on the AS/400 and Excel spreadsheets. The burden was on my shoulders to write queries to the IBM system, or have to train other users to do it," he said.
After testing business intelligence software from other suppliers, G Costa opted for Infor because it was already using the Infor System21 ERP system. This made the Infor business intelligence system quicker to implement. "We wanted to hit the ground running. Some of the other products would have taken six months to set up," said Boyle.
The system will be rolled out to business managers by the end of April, allowing them to create their own reports. This will free up the IT department to work on strategic projects, Boyle said. "If you are head of IT, you do not want to be producing queries to write reports," he added.
The next stage is to use Performance Analyser to give G Costa greater visibility of its manufacturing processes.
"We have never had a great way of viewing trends. The next stage will give us information on the pluses and minuses of our manufacturing processes," Boyle said.
The company also has plans to use the system on its personnel processes.
