IT workers exercise the least of all professionals in the UK
and they have the unhealthiest diets.
A study of more than 1,700 professionals in the UK carried out
by weight loss personal training agency
Fat Free Fitness
revealed that IT workers were the unhealthiest of all.
Fewer than 20% of workers involved in website development and
technical support do more than the government-recommended 30
minutes of moderate exercise five times a week.
Only 14% said they ate five portions of fruit and vegetables
during the day. To add to this unhealthy regime, the average IT
worker consumes the caffeine equivalent of 10 cups of coffee a
day.
According to Rich Leigh, personal trainer and founder of Fat
Free Fitness, workers who do not exercise have more time off
sick.
"A study by the Physical Activity Taskforce in 2003 found that
physically active employees take 27% fewer days sick leave, meaning
that the benefits for employers far outweigh the relatively low
effort needed to tackle the issue. A healthier national workforce
would undoubtedly equal a healthier British economy."
