Hewlett-Packard is planning to combine its printer and
personal computer businesses into one unit, according to theWall Street Journal.
If confirmed, the move will reinstate a measure by former chief
executive Carly Fiorina to boost HP's PC business by combining it
with the then stronger printer division.
Fiorina's successor, Mark Hurd
split the business units shortly after taking over as chief
executive in 2005.
Hurd is yet to approve plans to recombine the units under the
leadership of Todd Bradley, the current head of HP's PC
division.
It is unclear what role current printer chief Vyomesh Joshi
would play in the newly combined operations, the report said.
Last month, HP reported in financial results for the
third quarter of 2009 that PCs accounted for 12% of profits,
compared with 30% for the printer division.
