Hitachi Data Systems has started shipping its latest Network
Attached Storage (NAS) platform, which now provides native
intelligent file tiering to simplify storage management.
Aimed at mid-sized businesses, the Hitachi NAS 3080 and 3090
products offer up to 2 petabytes of capacity and 100K IOPS per
node. Hitachi claims the products can help businesses achieve up to
30% total cost of ownership (TCO) savings over competitive
offerings available today.
Miki Sandorfi, chief strategist of File and Content Services at
Hitachi Data Systems, said: "Hitachi Data Systems combines storage
management software, content archiving and data discovery in one
integrated platform to minimise complexity and reduce storage
capital and operating expenditure."
The NAS supports the Hitachi Storage Command Suite, offering
users a single console for management of unified NAS and SAN
environments. It is also fully integrated with commercial
application environments such as Microsoft Exchange, SQL Server,
SharePoint and Oracle while used in VMware vSphere environments.
Application administrators can use Hitachi NAS for their primary
(iSCSI) and secondary backup, restore, archiving and disaster
recovery storage, Hitachi said.
Analyst Gartner recently reported that
storage spending has dropped significantly due to businesses
cutting back projects during the recession.
