Over a third of businesses will get rid of IT staff to
cut costs in the coming months, but most are not simultaneously
reducing their expectations of the level of service they will
get.
According to research of 500 IT decision-makers by supplier
Affiniti, 75% of businesses arereducingIT spending, but only 3% are
reducing service level agreements.
"The research reveals that many IT departments are setting
themselves up to fail in their short-term commitments, but also
that they
will not be adequately positioned to lead their company through the
upturn which is widely predicted to begin in late 2009/early
2010," said Affinity.
Paul Renucci, director at Affiniti, said IT departments must
find alternatives to reducing staff numbers. "IT departments risk
missing out on a once-in-a-generation opportunity to get away from
being seen as just a cost centre. They must present themselves to
the board not only as delivering intelligent cost savings in the
short term, but also as
leading innovation which will underpin a successful strategy
during the upturn"
