Graduates looking for work in technology should not ask about
salary during their job interviews, a recruitment website has
warned.
Although the advice that graduates should avoid asking about
salary may surprise some, other guidelines offered in the webcast
on
itjobsforgraduates.com
may seem more obvious. These include being fully prepared to ensure
they know about the company, the industry in which it operates and
the position for which they are being interviewed.
"The Graduate Recruitment Process Explained" is the first in a
series of online guides launched by itjobsforgraduates.com, which
was launched last year by online recruitment network
theitjobboard.co.uk.
The webcast includes advice from graduate recruitment
specialists at KPMG and trading systems provider Fidessa, as well
as from the recruitment website itself.
It covers what happens after candidates leave the interviews,
whether IT is a good career in view of the current outsourcing
trend, and how graduates with a non-IT degree can enter the
technology sector.
The nextitjobsforgraduates.com webcast is due to cover
internships, and another will focus on interview questions.
Teresa Sperti, marketing manager atitjobsforgraduates.com, said,
"The recruitment process can be daunting at the best of times, and
this is especially so for graduates who do not yet have any
experience and therefore do not know what to expect.
"Our aim is to arm university leavers with the knowledge they
need so that they can find the position that is right for them, and
give themselves a good starting point on the IT career ladder."
