EBaywill
consider selling off itsSkypeinternet
phone subsidiary if it fails to find real synergies with its core
e-commerce business, reports theFinancial
Times.
EBay has already slashed the book value of Skype since buying
the firm three years ago, and has been disappointed at failing to
find any real integration with its core trading business -
something critics of the acquisition cited at the time of the
deal.
John Donahoe, who took over as chief executive of eBay last
month, told the FT, "What we're testing this year are the
synergies. If the synergies are strong, we'll keep it in our
portfolio. If not, we'll reassess it." He said, "What we know is
that Skype is a great stand-alone business."
Despite a lack of integration with eBay, Skype has continued to
pile on the subscribers.
