BTis offering 100mbps fibrebroadbandto the home, but only in
Ebbsfleet in Kent.
The new Ebbsfleet Valley community has 10,000 homes along with
new commercial, retail and leisure buildings, and BT will offer
100mbps
broadband using fibre from this August.
This is the fastest ever speed offered to residential customers
in the UK, said BT, and the first time the firm has put in fibre
instead of traditional copper for a residential new build.
It says it already provides 120,000 businesses with faster fibre
connections in the UK, and it is now under pressure from the
government and users to make fibre more widely available, to make
sure the UK does not fall behind other countries in the broadband
stakes.
The Ebbsfleet broadband capacity will support high bandwidth
applications such as multiple HDTV channels watched simultaneously,
HDTV gaming, and near instant music downloads, said BT.
BT is also committed to increasing broadband speeds over copper,
introducing services of up to 24mbps from this spring in limited
areas.
