Glasses Direct appoints first head of IT

Online prescription glasses retailerGlasses Directhas appointed its first head of IT.

The firm has appointed Derek Colvin, formerly of Microsoft and the Newspaper Licensing Agency (NLA), as its IT head.

Glasses Direct recently won £2.9m of venture capital to help it expand its business.

Colvin spent four years at Microsoft's MSN and Xbox divisions, and was later the NLA's chief technology officer. Colvin will have a similar role at Glasses Direct, where he will be responsible for running the firm's back-end and web IT infrastructure.
