EDS becomes leading UK outsourcer by sales

EDS has won back its number one position as the UK's leading software and IT services outsourcer, says analyst Ovum.

By revenue, EDS has overtaken IBM, thanks to a year of MoD contract-driven growth, said Ovum.

But Ovum says Capgemini has the most to celebrate. "Perhaps the most striking recent success story in the upper echelons is Capgemini, which has jumped to number four in the table this year," said Ovum analyst Phil Codling.

"As recently as 2003, the French firm was on the verge of dropping out of our top ten altogether, but that was before it started to benefit from its 'Aspire' mega-deal with HM Revenue & Customs," said Codling.

The top five UK outsourcers in order are EDS, IBM, Fujitsu, Capgemini and Capita. BT is number six.
