The Square Mile in the City of London has
switched on its area-wide Wi-Fi network.
Billed as Europe’s most advanced
outdoor Wi-Fi
network, the paid-for service is seeking to serve the 350,000
people who work in and visit the area.
The network has been built and is operated by Wi-Fi service
provider The Cloud. Free access for the first month will be
provided in association with Nokia, allowing anyone with a
Wi-Fi-enabled device to get online in the City.
The project was first announced over a year ago, and comes as BT
is building a number of paid-for city-wide Wi-Fi networks elsewhere
in the UK.
Alcatel-Lucent and mobile operator SFR recently announced that
they were building a free
city-wide Wi-Fi network in Paris, that will serve residents and
visitors.
