The International Information Systems Security
Certification Consortium (ISC)2, which certifies information
security professionals, has published a career guide for people who
want to make information security a career.
The European version of (ISC)2's guide covers typical jobs,
industries and organisations and contains job descriptions, likely
salaries, advice from people working in information security and
listings of professionally recognised courses.
More than one and a half million people work in information
security worldwide. The (ISC)2 expects this number to exceed two
million by 2010, an annual growth rate of 7.8%.
"The guide will give students, as well as hiring managers,
direction on educational offerings and help them understand the
role of professional credentials in the job market," Peter Berlich,
one of the trade body's board of directors, said.
In a separate move, (ISC)2 has created an online career centre
to match (ISC)2 qualified professionals with potential
employers.
