Law firm Herbert Smith has engaged IT services provider Plan-Net to provide back up to its in-house IT team through a “co-sourcing support” deal.

Plan-Net will provide a team leader and two helpdesk analysts at Herbert Smith’s site to boost the existing IT team in a deal that also includes cover for planned staff absences.

The law firm’s customer service manager Claire Kent said, “Historically Herbert Smith has used permanent staff to man the IT helpdesk. However, we realised that it was possible to access the same set of skills as a service from Plan-Net, which means that my colleagues and I can focus on service improvement rather than dealing with HR related matters.

“When we considered the true costs of permanent staff versus co-sourced support it was apparent that co-sourced support was an extremely cost effective alternative.”

The cover for staff absence would guarantee that staff were available in line with an agreed daily target, she added.
